Rancho L’Abri’s Multi-Disciplinary Treatment Team
Chief Executive Officer: David G. Newson
Mr. Newson has served a variety of companies and non-profit organizations in a variety of roles ranging from Group Manager to COO and CEO, giving him a broad background of experience and opportunities to create market visibility and financial stability in varying environments and circumstances. David has taken several companies through the growth phases planned for Rancho L’Abri, and is ideally suited to direct the future success of The Ranch.
He also serves on the board of directors of Townspeople, a local organization providing low cost housing to those at risk of becoming homeless and are also HIV positive or living with AIDS.
Medical Consultants:
John E. Milner, M.D. With over twenty-five years experience in the field of chemical dependency, John E. Milner, M.D., directs the treatment team of Rancho L’Abri. Certified in Addiction Medicine in 1986, he served on the California Society of Addiction Medicine’s Committee on Standards.
With a special interest and having done extensive research in the treatment of the patient population with an inability to achieve abstinence of have difficulties maintaining abstinence, Dr. Milner established the Rancho L’Abri program with a sensitivity to the needs of those individuals who may be identified as relapse prone.
 Jerry Ayers, M.D. joined Rancho L'Abri in 2001 and treats our patients with the highest level of care. Dr. Ayers is certified in Addiction Medicine from the American Society of Addiction Medicine and is a graduate of the University of Texas at Galveston and University of California at San Diego. Dr. Ayers has 15 years previous experience at UCSD, Grossmont, Alvarado, Palomar, and Tri-City Hospitals and 20 years Office experience at Scripps Clinic and Solo Private Practice. His professional interests include Addiction Medicine, Family Practice, Preventative Medicine, Sports Medicine, Dermatology, and Computers in Medicine.
Therapy and Clinical Staff:
 Melanie Gardner, M.A., MFTI, has a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology (with an emphasis on Marriage and Family Therapy) from California State University, Dominguez Hills. Ms. Gardner worked with dual diagnosis and severely emotionally disturbed adolescents for eight years prior to joining the team at Rancho L'Abri. Ms. Gardner has served on the Board of Directors for a non-profit residential treatment center in central California and initiated and facilitated several 12-Step programs for adolescents in group home settings. Her experience also includes supervision of a day treatment program at a locked, subacute adolescent facility, as well as supervision of house staff at a group home for adolescent males. Ms. Gardner has extensive experience working with victims of sexual abuse, bipolar disorder, and substance abuse issues.
Robert E. Brockman, C.A.D.C. II, N.C.A.C I, has worked continuously in the treatment of chemical addiction since 1988. Rob has extensive experience in education and lecturing on the recovery process. With additional certification in relapse prevention, he provides significant contribution to the treatment of those patients identified as relapse prone. Rob has an outpatient clinic with a psychiatric medical group in San Diego and provides continuing care options that include Intensive Outpatient day and evening programs as well as individual, group, and family counseling.
